MSBA COMPUTER LAW SECTION REPORTS
A. Annual Meeting
Please join us on Tuesday, May 23, 2006, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Palomino restaurant, 825 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis at the Section’s Annual Meeting. Elections will be held. In addition, it will be a great opportunity to see old colleagues and meet new ones. We hope you can join us for complimentary hors d’oeuvres and cash bar.
B. Noontime CLE – Vanessa VanderVelde Beardsley
The Noontime CLE Committee arranged for two hour-long CLE events this year, which provided relevant information for the Computer Law Section. David Allgeyer, of Lindquist and Vennum, spoke regarding software license agreements and the issues around disputes which often arise. Kristine Dorrain & Robert A. Hankoff from the National Arbitration Forum presented a program regarding the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy. The CLE’s were well attended this year, and the Noontime CLE Committee hopes to continue to provide relevant and useful programs for the coming year as well.
C. Computer Law Institute
Planning Committee members Chris Hilberg, Steven Lieske, Kendra, Richgels, Carolyn Sandberg, Dan Tysver and Kari Wangensteen have created a program with a wide range of topics. The Institute will include presentations on the following topics: patent trolls and how to deal with them, data security and cyber crime in today’s world, software licensing issues and solutions, open-source code and the implications of using them, Digital Millennium Copyright Act and its application to help stop infringement and the popular year-in-review of hot high tech cases. The Institute will be held on October ___, 2006 at the Minnesota CLE Center.
D. Report of the Contracts Committee.
This year, the contracts committee considered how best to share its work with the members of the Computer Law Section. It was decided that the contracts committee would develop form contracts that would be shared through both PracticeLaw.org and the Section’s own web site. We then turned our attention to developing a generic non-disclosure agreement. This agreement should soon be found on both on both the Section web site and the PracticeLaw.org site. The contracts committee this year included Kevin Brady, Dan Tysver, and Chris Evans.
